Job Fair a booming success

Thousands of job seekers flooded the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Sept. 25 and 26, armed with resumes, portfolios and the hope that they might walk away with a lead -- or better yet, a job.

The 11th edition of the National Job Fair & Training Expo drew at least 10,000 people, many of whom came out for the rare opportunity to network and interview directly with more than 150 employers, training and career service specialists, and to choose from thousands of opportunities in a range of fields.

The event also featured 16 speakers, as well as free presentations and self-employment seminars.

Presented in collaboration with The Toronto Sun and 24Hours, the event happens twice a year, in the spring and fall.

The main focus of The National Job Fair & Training Expo is to serve all Ontario job and career seekers in as many ways as possible. The fair was set up with four main pavilions to visit -- the Employment Pavilion, the Training and Education Pavilion, the BizLaunch Entrepreneurship Pavilion and the Career Services Pavilion -- covering every aspect of the job-search process: jobs, careers, training, education, self-employment, entrepreneurship, resources, counselling, professional advice and information services.

The newest feature for this fall fair is the Alberta Recruitment Zone, presented in collaboration with the Alberta Economic Developers Consortium.

Along with employer booths, The Resume Professional Assessment Centre was a big hit throughout the event. Resume writers from the Career Professionals of Canada were on hand for free workshops.

The next edition of The National Job Fair & Training Expo takes place in April 2008 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
